Our lawyers handle claims against Esurance. If you have a claim, call us today at 800-553-8082.

Esurance is an Allstate product, packaged in what is intended to be hip, new packaging. Their motto is “Insurance for the Modern World.” We’re not sure what that means — it looks like the same services, the same ability to buy online, and the same types of settlement offers.

Customer opinions about Esurance are varied. While some clients have commended Esurance for its competitive rates and user-friendly website, others have expressed dissatisfaction with their customer service and encountered challenges when filing property damage or injury claims.

Esurance History

Esurance was founded in Silicon Valley, California, in 1999 by a group of investors who wanted to harnessed the power of the internet to offer policies online, simplifying the insurance process for customers. Esurance gained quick recognition for its user-friendly website and competitive rates. It was among the first insurers to provide quotes and policies entirely online, setting a new industry standard. By 2004, Esurance had been acquired by the White Mountains Insurance Group.

Throughout the 2000s and into the 2010s, Esurance stood out with its creative advertising campaigns, often featuring animated characters and humor. The company made a significant splash during the 2014 Super Bowl with a $1.5 million Twitter sweepstakes giveaway, generating considerable social media buzz. If these folks could do anything, it was market.   They have a jazzy cartoon avatar with purple hair, though, so that’s something.

As Esurance grew, it expanded beyond auto insurance to offer various other insurance products, including home, renters, and motorcycle coverage. The introduction of telematics programs allowed customers to earn discounts based on their driving habits.

In 2011, Esurance was acquired by Allstate, a major player in the insurance industry. This strategic move was part of Allstate’s broader plan to tap into the direct-to-consumer online insurance market.

Despite the acquisition, Esurance continued to operate as a distinct brand, expanding its customer base and product offerings while maintaining its online-focused approach. The company invested in technology and digital innovations to streamline the insurance process.

In the 2020s, Allstate decided to phase out the Esurance brand and integrate its policies and customers into the Allstate brand. This transition aimed to create a unified customer experience across all Allstate But Esurance is still out there… for now.

Settlement of Esurance Accident Claims

Our lawyers are just now beginning to see more and more Esurance policies. In general, everything that we have said before about Allstate (not so good hands) is true of Esurance.

In our opinion (some attorneys differ), it is not the worst insurance company for resolving claims, but it doesn’t win any gold medals for fairness, either. Like Allstate, Esurance uses Colossus to help them value (read: undervalue) traffic collision injury claims. Like any other insurance company, we give it a reasonable effort to settle Esurance’s case.

If those efforts appear to be wasted, our accident change gears and quickly file a car accident lawsuit. Once a lawsuit is filed, a defense attorney will enter his/her appearance, and will typically bring a fresh set of eyes to the case. Sometimes they can make their insurance overseers see reason and make a good settlement payout more of a possibility.
